From this point of view, political commitment is subsumed by religious obligation. On the other hand, Hobbes also rejects the early democratic view taken up by parliamentarians that power should be shared between Parliament and the king. By rejecting these two views, Hobbes takes the soil of a person who is both radical and conservative. He asserted radically in his time that political authority and commitment rest on the individual interests of members of society, who are considered equal to each other, with no individual endowed with essential authority to rule over the rest, while maintaining the conservative position of the monarch. Whether he calls the sovereign, absolute authority must be ceded if society is to survive.
